Antique “Khes”
Antique “Khes” textile from the Sindh region of Pakistan or Punjab India. Very densely and
finely woven with cotton and silk, with a great handle. 82 x 62 inches. According to Rosemary
Crill, “Khes is a cotton cloth made in the Sindh and Punjab. According to usage, it may be
either a plain, twill-woven fabric, or a double-cloth with a checked design. Used mainly as
bedding.” This one is two loom-widths sewn together down the center. The condition is good
with a couple of nips around the edges. This is a rare textile. Crill states, “As khes are labour
intensive and expensive to produce, finer weaves in Gambat are made only as private
commissions.” $350
